If by sea
I f navigating by sea, note that the location of the
Club is Lat 41 02.7 N, Lon 73 31.3 W, in a lagoon North of Westcott Cove, in Stamford.
Westcott Cove is the body of water just East of Shippan Point.
If coming from the East, look fo r Red Bell "30" South of Smith's Reef, between Shippan Point and Noroton Point. Leave
"30" to starboard. From "30", steer about 320-330 through Westcott
Cove toward Green Flasher "1" and then Red Flasher "4". Then follow
the buoyed channel to the very end past the fishing pier and breakwater to starboard; past
the condos, marina, and office building to port; and past the fuel dock. Then turn left
into the HYC lagoon.
If coming from the West, look for Red Bell
"32" marking The Cows reef about one mile South of Shippan Point. Leave
"32" to port. Steer about 045 into Westcott Cove toward Green Flasher
"1", leaving it to port. Then steer about 340 toward Red Flasher "4".
Then follow the buoyed channel to the very end past the fishing pier and breakwater to
starboard; past the condos, marina, and office building to port; and past the fuel dock.
Then turn left into the HYC lagoon.
Note: There is a navigational hazard that can
be avoided. At low tide, the Westcott Cove channel shoals to approximately 4 in one
specific area. This shoal area is north of red nun 8, about 2/3 of the distance toward red
nun 10. The shoal area is entirely on the East (red) side of the channel; there is deeper
water on the West (green) side of the channel on a line between green cans 7 and 9.
