Four Free Boating Seminars At Halloween Yacht Club
Dear Skipper:
The Halloween Yacht Club is again sponsoring its annual schedule of free
winter seminars for boaters, These programs, although organized primarily for
Halloween members and guests, are open to all boaters, so you and your boating
friends are invited.
There are four programs. Each is on a Saturday morning, 10-noon, at Halloween,
10 Seaview Ave in Stamford. Here are the dates and topics:
Sat Jan 14 Five Things You Need To Know About AIS and RADAR. Just
a few of the reasons why you might want to equip your boat with this new
technology. Plus, practical advice on using AIS and Radar, and how to benefit
from the technology's optimal performance and safety potential. Seminar leaders:
Duncan Nevard, of Intrepid Marine Electronics, and Captain Paul Adelberg
("Paul's Hardware").
Sat Feb 4 Need A Boat Survey? Who ? What ? Why ? And, How ? So,
you’re about to buy a boat but . . . now you’re advised to hire a Marine
Surveyor. Questions: Why do I need a surveyor? How do I find and evaluate a
surveyor? What will the surveyor report about the boat? Good value or not? Pig
in a poke? Safety issues? Answers, heads-up issues, and more by Bruce S.
Patterson, SAMS, ABYC, who heads Coastwise Marine Surveyors in Stamford.
Sat Feb 25 How To Cope With Medical Emergencies At Sea. Dr. Les
Krasnogor, explains how to recognize, stabilize, and manage hypo-thermia, heat
stroke, puncture wounds, lacerations, burns, heart attacks, choking, and
fractures/sprains/strains. . . . . until the patient can be transferred to
medical services ashore. It ain't just "first aid," and it's not for the
squeamish!
Sat March 3 Stamford Harbor: Update and Future Considerations.
Harbormaster Mike Taylor, Chairman Ray Redniss and other members of the Stamford
Harbor Management Commission report on their efforts to optimize waterfront and
harbor uses for recreational, residential, industrial, and commercial purposes,
without environmental compromise.
Although these programs are free, there is a $1 charge for coffee and donuts.
